Will we drown in plastic?
The ubiquitous plastic
Plastic has become the main component of our modern society. It is found on your food, in your clothes, in our water and in our blood. Your fridge, your wardrobe, your home, your lungs, they are all filled with plastic.
The oceans are overflowing with plastic from our food, fishing nets and soda bottles. As the Earth's societies and their economies grow, plastic is conquering more and more of the territories we thought belonged to us. So far, more than 8 billion tons of plastic have been produced. That's more than 1 ton of plastic per person.
As the production of plastic is expected to quadruple over the next 30 years, plastic pollution will only get worse. Can we find a way to break free from our addiction or are we going to drown in plastic?
Plastic interpretations
The participating artists relate to the question and have created works of art that depict the strange relationship we have with plastic. Through performances, music, poetry, visual art and photography, the artists have created experiences that provoke and make us ask questions about the place of plastic in our own lives. They ask us to imagine how our endless consumption of plastic will affect future generations.
