ESTIMATED RESERVES
SEPTEMBER 28, 2021 - NOVEMBER 27, 2021
ANNA BORGMAN
With Estimated Reserves, sculptor Anna Borgman's artistic work is presented in an extensive solo exhibition, which shows speculative and stylized natural and industrial landscapes for Kunsthal NORD's post-industrial premises.
Based on geology's connections to the political and Anthropocene, the exhibition will unfold as an open narrative about the extraction of material as well as intangible resources and in this present a space for speculative scenarios.

The (im)material energy in its many forms has a central presence in Anna Borgman’s artistic practice. The earth’s resources of precious metals, chemical elements, and raw materials have become building blocks for our modern life on earth. The processes in which the materials are extracted, transported, stored, processed, and refined to eventually find a place are invisible to the most and are often far more exten-sive than assumed. Our supply lines extend across the earth and start down in its subsoil, in the mines, out in the fields, under the oceans.
For her exhibition Borgman presents the materials in their processed version in the form of stylized factory machines, containers and digital research tools which are used in the extraction of the same materials. Situated in Kunsthal NORD, in the former thermal power plant, industrial landscapes are installed in faith with their nature.
With Estimated Reserves, Anna Borgman weaves a digital blanket of humans’ drive towards development and storytelling. With geology as a conversation partner, Borgman makes references across the world and associates seemingly isolated events with something universal. With a scientific sobriety, the works release a precise amount of information so that one as a viewer is left to think about some of humans achievements, which Borgman is so brilliant to record. The speculative as a method of producing new future(s) is a driving force in the exhibition, which lifts the gaze of the heavy heritage of the Anthropocene and allows the viewer to think in hopeful scenarios.
Anna Borgman is a Danish sculptor living in Berlin. With a background in art history at Aarhus University and architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, she completed her studies at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee. She has received several scholarships, among others. from Stiftung Kunstfonds and Statens Kunstfond. Borgman works site-specifically and on a large scale and is thematically and in material selection inspired by environments around her. In collaboration with Candy Lenk, she has realized several works in the public space, and together they have won several decorating competitions.
The exhibition is supported by Statens Kunstfond, Knud Højgaards Fond, Beckett-Fonden, Grosserer L. F. Foghts Fond, and GeoCase – Ceocenter Denmark.
