MOMENTUM OF THE MENTORS

NOVEMBER 2 - JANUARY 4, 2020
ANDREAS RASMUSSEN, FREJA NIEMANN LUNDRUP, JULIE STAVAD, LARS WORM, MORTEN MODIN & REGITZE ENGELSBORG KARLSEN

The group exhibition, MOMENTUM OF THE MENTORS, presents a condensed selection of new Danish contemporary art created by Andreas Rasmussen, Freja Niemann Lundrup, Julie Stavad, Lars Worm, Morten Modin and Regitze Engelsborg Karlsen.

The six young academy trained artists take in part of the art center with art works that involve the viewer in reflections on existence, body, materials and nature. Based on the artists’ innovative contribution to the Danish contemporary art scene, they have been chosen as mentors to Kunsthal Nord’s recently started Art Pioneers – a free, two-year part-time education for people between 18-29, hoping to be a part of the art world. The Art Pioneers take the lead in an experimental training format focusing on developing their abilities in interacting with the art that is taking place right now.

The mentors have been asked to contribute with an art work reflecting the essence of their current artistic praxis. A paradoxical task, because how do one capture a static snapshot of an artistic praxis in constant development?

The exhibition’s title, “MOMENTUM OF THE MENTORS”, refers to that dilemma. “Moment” describes the artists’ ‘moment’ – referring to the state of their praxis right here, right now, and “momentum” – a process and progress towards new art works and artistic milestones.

Andreas Rasmussen (The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, 2008), Freja Niemann Lundrup (Det Jyske Kunstakademi, 2018), Julie Stavad (Det Jyske Kunstakademi, 2015), Lars Worm (Det Fynske Kunstakademi, 2009), Morten Modin (The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, 2014) og Regitze Engelsborg Karlsen (Det Jyske Kunstakademi, 2018).

The exhibition is supported by Statens Kunstfond.
