[UNTITLED 16] is an ambitious exhibition with new works created by eight young talented artists who all graduated from recognized fine art academies. They are carefully selected and invited to produce works that are either created or thought into the particular context of Kunsthal NORD.
The artists have gained recognition for their departure works, and several of them have displayed works at renowned museum, gallery exhibitions and artist run project spaces. Thus they are already well on the way to influence contemporary art at home and abroad.
The goal of [UNTITLED 16] is to create bold and evolving clashes between young artists from different academies and at different geographical background. We want to challenge the audience of North Jutland with the new, experimental art with its diverse art practices and phrases while offering the local art scene new contacts and fresh inspiration.
Because Kunsthal NORD would like to help to develop new transnational dialogues, and provide both Emigrants and resident artists the opportunity to show their works to the home area's audience, half of the artists have a close relation to Northern Jutland.
"Untitled" has been the most widespread work name in contemporary art since the artists in the 1960s started to avoid titles of their works in the fight against a rooted understanding and senior interpretations.
The title claims its absence. As an artistic strategy that points at the visual art, which is to be experienced visually and not 'read' as a literary expression. Further by adding a year, it is the hope that every year to come can present such a transnational dialogue creative mapping of talented Danish artists on the way.
