TIME SLICE
MARCH 18 – APRIL 30 2017
PETER FRIMAND
Peter Frimand was educated at the Royal Danish Art Academy from 1990-1997. In 2014 he received the three year-long working artist grant from Statens Kunstfond and now we have invited him to show his largest solo exhibition to date. It features works, which are all related to space, site and memory.
‘TIME SLICE’ will therefore engage with the Kunsthal’s history as a space, while simultaneously considering time and remembrance. The artist takes formal, aesthetic, experimental and biographic factors into account.
In his practice, Peter Frimand often challenges abstract concepts such as time, space and remembrance. His confrontations with these topics often result in conceptual granite sculptures or highly sensual interactive video-installations, which he constructs using a brought spectrum of materials.
His primary aim is to investigate the bilateral interaction between perception and reflection, or – in other terms – between what can be seen and what cannot. In his new works, Peter Frimand attempts to capture the particular
concurrency created by the simultaneous presence of viewer and work, within the same space. Here, the factors time and space indeed collide.
Peter Frimand explores thus the span of space in time and its perception as well as the situation between work and viewer – to be sensuously present in the current situation of the here and now. The results merge in the direction of post-minimal art, as well as performative conceptual art, which, from an art theoretical point of view, draws phenomenology as its main source of inspiration.
The exhibition is supported by Statens Kunstfond and Aalborg Municipality.
