POMELO CULTIVATORS TERRACE
MARCH 18 – APRIL 30 2017
RIKKE RAVN SØRENSEN
Rikke Ravn Sørensen is originally from Aalborg, but has not previously exhibited in Northern Jutland. She graduated from the Royal Danish Art Academy in 1997 and has since become one of the country’s most interesting and consequent sculptors. The artistic expression of her oeuvre often moves between rigorous classical forms and more articulating, meaningful objects, which bare references to masks, human figures or architecture.
For her exhibition at the Kunsthal NORD, Rikke Ravn Sørensen has created works, which actively relate to the spaces they are placed in, as well as Nordkraft’s post-industrial tale of deconstruction and reconstruction and its shifting architecture. Her sculptures reflect a strong sensitivity to their environment and the fundamental belief that the spirit of the place is worth exploring. What already exists can accentuate an echo in the pieces and articulate new shapes.
Jointly, Rikke Ravn Sørensen’s pieces will more likely be experienced as somewhat fragile, unpretentious elements in a continuous, accessible process, rather than final statements. Thereby, the audience becomes involved in shaping the perception of the entire work.
The exhibition is supported by Statens Kunstfond and Aalborg Municipality.
