Path of the myth
24TH OF JULY - 23TH OF AUGUST
IDA SØNDER THORHAUGE
In the exhibition ’path of the myth’ Ida Thorhauge (b. 1990) is inspired by her grandfather’s modernistic art workshop, which he built in 1960. The workshop has not been used for more than a decade. Old works, moth-eaten sketches and incomprehensible notes with almost coded handwritings are just some of the elements, which can be seen in the dusty room of the workshop. The art workshop as a phenomenon is often connected to myths and supernatural stories. The workshop seems like a time warp and has almost a symbolic characteristic, which evokes the question regarding how the myth of art is reproduced.
’Path of the myth’ consists of creations, which has been created during an aesthetic examination of the workshop as a place, sculpture, materiality and atmosphere. Ida Thorhauge has chosen items and locations in the workshop, in which she in different ways has transformed into new creations. The exhibitions can therefore be seen as a meeting between two generations, where two different approaches to art are at play. The works reflect how the materials’ meaning change over time, and the chosen items sealed in historicism points back at the ongoing movements at the present time.
Ida Sønder Thorhauge is a students at Det Jyske Kunstakademi. She is a former member of Northern Jutland’s Artistic-Studio and BGK.
