ART IN THE CITY AND THE STATION
NEW ART HALL AT AALBORG STATION: S1 ART HALL NORTH
Last year, Kunsthal NORD decorated Aalborg with 15 white art halls, which was placed at central locations around the city during Aalborg Festival. It was very well received and with a new miniature art hall at Aalborg Station, we bring art to the people in public yet again. This time it is permanent, with changing exhibitions by danish and international artists in 2018.
The first work is a ready made produced by the Copenhagen artist-collective Sydhavn Station.
"S1 Kunsthal NORD may not be one of the biggest exhibitions, but we look forward to presenting art for the over two million people who pass Aalborg Station annually," says Henrik Broch-Lips, head of Kunsthal NORD, and initiator of the new art hall.
The new miniature art hall in the busy station in the center of Aalborg, is thus not only intended as advertising but as another initiative in the quest for contemporary art for everyone:
"For several years, we have been thinking out of our post-industrial raw framework in Nordkraft, and have, for example, made major citizen-intensive and collaborative art projects with younger experimental artists from places like Mors and East Aalborg. Now most recently in Aalborg with inspiring exhibitions in fifteen 'white cubes' with performances, art salons and guided tours", says Henrik Broch-Lips.
The goal of S1 Kunsthal NORD is to create unique artistic experiences in the public space and to awaken astonishment while people are waiting. Right now, efforts are being made to invite some of the country's best and most experimental artists to try out the four-cubic meter ‘art hall’.
"We have received positive feedback from artists who think the idea is fun and very manageable. We are currently working on the upcoming program, looking for good professional artists who can work sculptively and take advantage of the cube’s possibilities," says Henrik Broch- Lips, art historian and leader of Kunsthal NORD.
